So, as the result of pure boredom, the other day I decided to look up my name in Google Maps. While “Sites” is a common term on the internet (“websites” anyone), I couldn’t imagine a place named solely after my surname.
Such a place does exist. In California. Somewhere between Devils Elbow and Mills Orchards lies the unincorporated community of Sites. It ain’t that pretty. Just check out the image below…
Maxwell Sites road runs through the “town”, so it assuredly was named after the family name. Now I just gotta find ‘ol Maxwell and get some history here…
Oh, and how about this for a road trip idea? Philip, South Dakota (a legitimate town, a county seat no less, of 779 people) to Sites, California. 1,439 miles of pure ego-trippin’ bliss.
